FUN FOOTBALL 2026

What is Fun Football?

Fun Football builds on the First Kicks foundation and is run at Wainoni Park for boys and girls aged 8–9 (for the 2026 season, those born between January 2017 and December 2018). The programme focuses on developing basic football skills in a fun, positive, and supportive environment.

What is the time commitment?

Training is on Wednesdays, with games on Saturdays from 8.30–10am. For those keen to advance their skills, we also run Skills Centre sessions with professional coaches — more details can be found here. The season runs from April to September, with breaks during school holidays.

What format do the games take?

Saturday mornings will usually involve three 15-minute games.

Games are played 5v5:

  • U8s use size 3 balls; U9s use size 4 balls
  • Goals are bigger than First Kicks (typically 4m x 2m)
  • Each team has a goalkeeper

Games are both home and away, rotating with Fun Football teams from two other clubs in the region.

Do children need experience to take part?

No experience is required! Fun Football caters to all levels — from complete beginners to those who have been kicking a ball since they could walk.

Do we need any special kit?

As part of registration, your child will receive a Greenhithe FC shirt and shorts for the season.

You will need to supply:

  • Green socks (available at the pre-season Muster event and here)
  • Shin pads
  • Football boots

Who will be training my child?

Our Fun Football programme is run by passionate volunteers. Coaches and team managers play a huge role in creating a fun, positive environment; and we’d encourage you to consider putting your hand up.

  • Coaching: No prior experience is necessary — we provide training plans, drills, and full support to help you run sessions confidently.
  • Team managing: Help liaise with families, track attendance, coordinate Player of the Day awards, halftime oranges, and end-of-season events.

Volunteering is a great way to be part of your child’s football journey, meet other families, and join the Greenhithe FC community.

Can my daughter play in a girls-only team?

We plan to have girls-only as well as mixed teams in the Fun Football grades; please specify your preference when registering. If you’re interested in a younger girls-only programme, we also run Fantails in Terms 1 and 4 — see here for more details.
