Girls' football at Greenhithe FC is where passion meets opportunity. Whether you're new to the game or ready to take your skills to the next level, we're building teams across multiple age groups to give every girl the chance to play the football she loves.

What is girls' football?

Greenhithe’s girls-only programme is designed for young women who want to play in a supportive, all-girls environment. Building on the foundations developed in mixed First Kicks as well as Fantails, the programme creates a space where girls can grow in confidence, challenge themselves, and be part of a team that celebrates their passion for the game.

What age groups do you offer?

Where numbers and interest allows, we are keen to offer girls-only teams across the following age groups:

  • U9 / Fun Football: For girls aged 8 and 9 (born 2017-2018)
  • U10 / Juniors: For girls aged 10 (born 2016)
  • U12 / Juniors: For girls aged 11 and 12 (born 2014-2015)
  • U14 / Youth: For girls aged 13 and 14 (born 2012-2013)
  • U16 / Youth: For girls aged 15 and 16 (born 2010-2011)

What is the cost?

Check out the registrations page for our fees, which range from $155 for Fun Footballers to $195 for Youths.  We also have discounts for families registering two or more players.

When does it start?

We will commence pre-season training for registered players in term 1, with the season starting the weekend of May 2.

What is the time commitment?

The season runs May to September, with breaks over school holidays. Team training sessions are typically 60–90 minutes on weekdays, with days and times confirmed by our volunteer coaches. Games are played on Saturdays. For players looking to further develop their skills, we also offer Skills Centre sessions led by professional coaches — more details can be found here.

Where does training take place?

Training is held at either Wainoni Park or Greenhithe War Memorial. We also have access to fields in Hobsonville and Scott Point, with teams based there according to demand.

What about games?

Our girls’ teams will follow the same structure as our mixed teams. Fun Footballers play either in-house or on a rota system with two other clubs, Juniors compete against teams around the Harbour region, and Youth play fixtures in locations across the isthmus.

How do I join?

When you register, please tick the box for a ‘girl-only’ team. Please note these are subject to demand in each age group.

For Youth players, we’ll be holding open training sessions where new and returning players can join us on the pitch. These sessions are open to all skill levels — this gives our coaches a chance to see players in action in a relaxed, welcoming environment, and helps us place everyone in the team that suits them best.

Details about open training sessions will be confirmed soon — keep an eye on club communications for dates and times.

Do girls need experience to take part?

No experience needed! We welcome all players, whether you’re new to the game or returning with years of experience.

Do we need any special kit?

As part of registration, your daughter will receive a Greenhithe FC shirt and shorts for the season. Please note this kit is for game days NOT for training.

You will need to supply:

  • Green socks (available here)
  • Shin pads
  • Football boots

All players must bring a drink bottle to both training and game days.

Who will be training my daughter?

Our girls-only programme is run by passionate volunteers as well as our professional coaches who offer training extensions through the Skills Centre.

We encourage parents and caregivers to get involved.

  • Coaching: No prior experience is needed — we provide training plans, drills, and ongoing support to help you coach with confidence.
  • Team managing: Assist with family communication, attendance tracking, Player of the Day awards, halftime oranges, and end-of-season events.

Beyond that, we are a community club, and parents are expected to be active participants. Setting up of pitches will be on a team by team rotation, and parents will be involved in clearing away team equipment at the end of training and games. We also encourage families to get involved in our fundraising activities and events.

What if I have questions as the season goes on?

Your team manager and coach will be your main point of contact throughout the season.
